Benfica v Bayern: Match Preview

Bayern Munich are having a perfect record till now in their Champions League campaign, with 2 wins. The Rekordmeister has scored 8 goals from these two matches and has not conceded yet.

Benfica on the other hand is second in the Group E table, with a win and a draw. Their 3-0 win over Barcelona will provide them with confidence to take on the Germans.

In any of their last 10 meeting in UEFA European competitions, Benfica has not beaten Bayern. The Germans are also on a 19-match unbeaten away run, something they will be looking to improve on.

The host Benfica could be without some of their wingbacks. This includes the likes of Valentino Lazaro and Gil Dias. Gilberto is also injured making him a doubt for the clash.

As for Bayern, the club also has its issues. This includes both Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka. Davies came off early during their victory over Bayer Leverkusen and will not feature due to the injury. As for Goretzka, the midfielder will be out due to the cold.

This means that the Bavarians will most likely use Lucas Hernandez as the left-back and use Marcel Sabitzer in the midfield. Hernandez could be available but is a doubt for the future due to the ongoing legal issues.

Benfica: Odysseas Vlachodimos; Lucas Verissimo, Nicolas Otamendi, Jan Vertonghen; Gilberto, Julian Weigl, Joao Mario, Alejandro Grimaldo; Rafa Silva, Roman Yaremchuk, Darwin Nunez

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Niklas Sule, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez; Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer;Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry; Robert Lewandowski

Though Benfica is in a good form, Bayern could be too much for them. Bayern defence could finally concede a goal, but their attack has such good quality that the slow Benfica defence will find it very hard to handle.
