Bengaluru FC vs NorthEast United FC : Match Preview

Bengaluru FC takes on NorthEast United FC in the second game of the Indian Super League. This fixture is a confusing piece by itself. None of the teams will have their strong fanbases in stands and thus it will be 11 players vs 11 players only. Everything boils down to the 90 minutes on the pitch, history aside.

NorthEast United FC are the not most consistent side in the history of the Indian Super League. They could be scoring at will against the table-toppers and then would go on to lose to the team that scrounge for points. A record third-place finish took them into the playoffs only for the second time last season. They have been in the bottom half otherwise springing up only for surprises.

Bengaluru FC on the other hand are a more threatening side. Having joined the ISL in 2017/18, they topped the League and went all the way into the final losing to Chennaiyin FC. The next season they topped the League and won the trophy to become the first team to do so. Things have been different ever since. A third finish followed by a 6th place finish last season showed that the Blues had their own blues.

Bengaluru FC vs NorthEast United FC : Before the Game

Based on the performances in the Durand Cup, Bengaluru FC will start the game as favourites. The reserve was on a roll as they danced their way into the semi-finals. An encounter with their rival and eventually Champions, FC Goa saw them walk out of the tournament. Marco Pezzaiuoli had a good run with the reserves but will he be able to deliver the same with the senior team?

NorthEast United FC on the other hand are prepared to give a good fight. Assistant coach, Alison Kharsyntiew, knows that the game cannot be taken lightly and that focus will be on the result. He believes that his squad have the discipline and character to work their way into the game and get the desired results. After the 3rd place finishes last season, the expectations will be sky high and the players are up for it.

Federico Gallego

NorthEast United FC’s Federico Gallego was the driving force for the Highlanders last season. He never set the wrong foot and played his heart out for the team. Up in the attacking third to his work rate in the defensive half, Gallego will be a threat this season as well. Will he have more teammates to back him up this season?

Previous Encounters
