Bengaluru FC  and East Bengal will be facing each other on Saturday (9th January 2020) at Fatorda Stadium, Margao, Goa at 1930 hrs IST (07:30 PM) for the 52nd match of the Indian Super League (ISL-7).

SC East Bengal is hanging at the 9th spot of the table having a very rough campaign in the ISL till now. Only one win in their bag, Red and Gold Brigade have just 7 points from 9 matches played. Having drawn four times and four losses apart from their only win coming against Odisha FC.

With 12 points to their name, Bengaluru FC is floating mid of the table after playing 9 matches. Out of their 9 matches, the Blues have won 3, drew 3 and lost 3 matches in the ISL. Blues are still looking for rhythm in their play.

The Blues have been little clumsy at the back which made them conceding 12 goals equaling their scoring numbers till now in this campaign. Hunt for goals in open play has not been in favor for them and set pieces being their forte but didn’t work for them in the last games they have played.

Mumbai City giving them the taste of their own medicine in the last encounter and scoring through set-piece with a final score of 3-1.

Sunil Chettri is the top scorer for the Blues with 4 goals and an assist but the star performer for the team is their goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and has been consistent with his performance. Gurpreet has just managed 2 clean sheets which has been due to their poor defense. As per their previous manager, Carles Cuadret, Gurpreet is the best goalkeeper on Indian soil.

While Red and God Brigade have managed just 9 goals in a total of 9 matches played and letting opposition teams score 15 times. Their top scorer is Jacques Maghoma with 3 goals to him. Debjit Majumdar has kept only one clean sheet with a shaky defense of the old lady from Bengal.

Coming home with a 1-1 draw against Odisha FC in their last game after adding spice to their defense with newcomers and brought a decent change for the Robbie Fowler men. As Ex- Liverpool man was satisfied with the performance of the team after getting a red card in the match.

Head coach Carles Cuadret has been sacked by Bengaluru FC after their poor display against Mumbai City FC where Blues were sent home with a defeat by 3-1. Naushad Moosa, assistant to Cuadrat, will take his place as the head coach with rest of the coaching staff.

The blues have been struggling to get a strong grip in the games and creativity in their forward play has been missing since the start of the season.

Bengaluru FC will be without injured Ashique  Kuruniyan. Yet with ups and downs, the Blues would love to regain their confidence with the new ideas of Naushad Moosa, the interim manager.

East Bengal are a decent side. They are getting better. Bright (Enobakhere) is a talented player. We will be playing more entertaining football. We can assure you that. We have to remain compact when we lose the ball. We have had fewer clean sheets. The focus is not to concede early goals,”

Naushad Moosa

Debutants, East Bengal would be comparatively more confident than the Blues as they managed a draw against better-ranked FC Goa. The new addition to the team, Bright Enobakhere, scored a dream goal after dribbling past 5 players and brought morale of the team right on the top.

Interestingly, Red and Gold Brigade’s boss Robbie Fowler is suspended for the game after receiving his second caution of the season in the previous game. Captain Danny Fox, too, was out due to the suspension but is now available as a decision on his red card overturned and the injured Anthony Pilkington will also be missed.

Bengaluru FC 1-1 SC East Bengal

Blues would not like to concede a goal and will try to keep their back intact. While East Bengal would be aggressive in terms of attack which will make them vulnerable at the back and could open the door for the Blues. Looking at the talented but not in complete form, the squads will give show us a thrilling contest in Goa. Be ready for the game where south meets east.
