Rumors about Karim Benzema being included in France’s national team have come true. France has announced their 26 man squad for Euro on Tuesday and it included Benzema’s name.
Benzema is the best striker available to France at the moment. After being left out by France for the past six years, he has been included in the Euro squad.
He has been impressive this season scoring 29 goals in all competitions. He was Real Madrid’s standout player in their journey to the Champions League semi-finals and the La Liga.
The Frenchman last appeared in 2015 for France against Portugal. He was left out from the squad after French midfielder Mathieu Valbuena accused him of blackmailing him over a sex tape.
France coach Didier Deschamps announced his squad for Euro 2020 on Tuesday. He shockingly called back Benzema in the national team after a long six-year of ban upon the forward.
Benzema has expressed his feelings as he said “So proud of this return to the France team and the trust I’ve been shown. “Thanks to my family, my friends, my club, my fans, and to all who have supported me and given me strength every day.”
Benzema’s returns to France National Squad
The 33-year-old striker originally made his senior international debut as a teenager in 2007. He was at that time playing for Lyon and quickly became a regular for his country.
Benzema has gone to appear 81 times while scoring 27 goals for his National Team. He has appeared in the national squads for Euro 2008 and 2012, alongside the 2014 World Cup
However, despite ongoing success at Madrid, Benzema’s international career came to a halt in 2016. He was banned from the National team following his incident with this teammate Valbuena.
Benzema was not included in the 2018 World Cup squad and he protested heavily against it. In,2019 He also campaigned to play for a different national team due to the ban by France.
He has a chance to prove after he is included back in the France squad after six long years. He will feature with his fellow national forwards such as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Olivier Giroud in the Competition.
France is in Group F with Germany, Hungary, and Portugal, and their campaign starts in Munich against Germany on 15 June.
