Benfica are reportedly showing interest in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno as per the report in English outlet The Sun.

The 30-year-old’s first-team appearances have dried up this season following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale in the summer. The Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta opted to sign the Englishman following an error-prone campaign from the former Bayer Leverkusen ace.

According to the report, Arsenal are eager to cash in on their experienced goalkeeper Bernd Leno. After signing American shot-stopper Matt Turner as a backup to Ramsdale.

The north London club have slapped an £8.5 million asking price on the German. However, the interested suitor Benfica are not willing to match the Gunners’ asking price.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are looking to generate some cash from the players’ sales ahead of a busy summer. Héctor Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Pablo Mari, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are all on the chopping block along with the German.

Can Arsenal manage to offload Bernd Leno this summer?

Despite showcasing glimpses of his best early in his time at the Emirates Stadium. The 30-year-old’s performance in recent years had forced Mikel Arteta into signing a new goalkeeper.

Aaron Ramsdale enjoyed a brilliant start to his life in north London. However, he looked shaky towards the back end of the newly concluded season. So, he needs to showcase consistency in order to keep his place between the sticks.

So, it will be the right decision to cash in on the German. And invest the money elsewhere. The Gunners need strengthening in the middle of the park. And also in the forward line.

So, it will be interesting to see how the club’s hierarchy does their business this summer. Mikel Arteta has hinted they will be busy in this transfer window. And they need to sign players who will enter straight into the starting eleven.
