Blackburn Rovers has expressed an interest in signing Ben Davies from Liverpool to strengthen their defence. The departure of Darragh Lenihan has left the club short of options at the back. The Irish defender has signed for Middlesbrough on a free transfer after his contract with Blackburn Rovers had expired.
Rovers are in further turmoil as their player of the season from 2021/22, Jan Paul Van Hecke has returned to his parent club. The Dutch defender was on loan at Blackburn Rovers from Brighton & Hove Albion. Thus, the club is in imminent need to sign defensive reinforcements.
However, it is surprising that Rovers are yet to make an official proposal to Liverpool for Davies. The Lancashire club will begin their season later this month against Queens Park Rangers. With the opening fixture closer than ever, the transfer inactivity is a little astonishing.
Blackburn Rovers prefer a loan move for Ben Davies
Ben Davies will have to take a huge pay cut in order to secure a permanent transfer from Liverpool. Rovers are expected to instead pursue a loan move for the defender. However, it is reported that the Reds are pushing for a permanent transfer in an attempt to offload the defender.
It is important for Blackburn Rovers to act quickly as they are not the only team interested in a transfer. Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Celtic are reportedly also interested in signing the English defender. The club from Lancashire needs to act quickly if they are to sign Davies amid competition.
However, since both the clubs differ on the type of transfer as well, it will be reasonable for Blackburn Rovers to shift attention to alternative targets to ensure they complete their signings timely.
