Arsenal and Chelsea were both interested to sign a striker this summer. Jhon Duran once emerged as a common target for both Chelsea and Arsenal but none of them made a move for him. It seems like that will turn out as a huge mistake for both clubs due to the latest news.
Jhon Duran has been one of the best strikers in Europe this season. He has so far found the back of the net 6 times this season in just 10 games for Aston Villa. What makes him more lethal is the fact that he has just started 1 of those 10 matches.
Chelsea and Arsenal to regret not signing Jhon Duran this summer
While speaking to Villa news, Dan Bardell stated that Aston Villa no longner want to sell Duran and hence have moved away from release clause. He added that Villa used release clause for players like Jack Grealish and Douglas Luiz.
But now Aston Villa are playing at the highest level. They are back in the Champions League and this maybe the reason Villa no longer want to sell their superstars. This will be a huge blow for both Arsenal and Chelsea who once were linked with Duran.
Given the top form Duran currently is and also considering his age, he would have surely been a more than decent addition to any of these London clubs. He could have been an upgrade for Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea or could have finally ended the long term search of Gunners to sign a proper number nine.
The Blues were focused on signing Victor Osimhen and tried really hard to sign him. But, they were unable to negotiate on a fair price and Osimhen joined Galatasaray. It seems likes Chelsea have still not given up on him and may try again next year.
As for Arsenal, they were also linked with some of the top names in Europe. The most heavily linked name was Benjamin Sesko who signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig. Kai Havertz is doing a good job at the moment but it is not his natural position. Gunners are said to again after striker next year same as Chelsea.
