Brentford ended their first season back in the top flight comfortably as they finished in 13th position. However, Thomas Frank knows that the club will face tougher challenges in their second season in the Premier League. The Bees have completed the signing of Ben Mee to strengthen their defence.
Ben Mee signed for the club after his contract expired with Burnley. The defender has spent 11 years with the Clarets before parting ways this summer. Multiple Premier League clubs expressed their interest to sign the defender. Burnley also offered the Englishman a new contract ahead of the season.
However, the English defender chose to sign with Brentford ahead of all other suitors. The 32-year-old defender has become the oldest player at the club. Thomas Frank has signed the defender to add experience to his backline ahead of the next Premier League season.
Ethan Pinnock and Kristoffer Ajer are both recovering from injuries. In such a scenario, Brentford have made a smart move by signing the experienced defender from Burnley.
Brentford is looking ahead to the next season
The Bees have made shrewd signings in an attempt to fill the gaps in their squad. The club has completed the signings of Thomas Strakosha, Aaron Hickey, Ben Mee, and Lewis-Potter.
Even though Brentford will lose the services of Christian Eriksen next season, the club will hope to make up for the lost creativity from their new signings. Thomas Frank will be determined to motivate his squad ahead of the second season and push for a better performance than last season.
The Bees have a talented squad at their disposal and they will hope to push for a top-half finish this season. However, the rival Premier League clubs have spent and strengthened a lot ahead of the start of the season. Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, and Aston Villa have all completed major signings ahead of the new season.
It will be really interesting to see the competitiveness in Premier League next season. Nevertheless, Brentford will hope to better their 13th place finish from last season and reach new heights in the English top-flight.
