Seven times Bundesliga champions FC Schalke 04 have faced their relegation after a straight 30 years journey in the league. And they will play in Germany’s second tier for the 2021/2022 season. The Royal Blues have only two wins in this season with 13 points.
Schalke’s campaign has headlined by five coaches in this season as David Wagner was given a marching order in September followed by Manuel Baum managed until December and they have turned towards their favourite Huub Stevens on an interim basis. Christian Gross was hired but got sacked in mid-February and relatively an unknown Dimitrios Grammozis was appointed in March, however, they were already doomed.
As the club made too many changes in last three years in terms of Sports Director, Coaches, and Players that have really damaged their structure and long-term plans.
The likes of Leon Goretzka, Alexander Nubel, Thilo Kehrer, Max Meyer, and Ozan Kabak have left Schalke in recent years and the club failed to bring a replacement. Through their investments in Sebastian Rudy, Suat Serder, Salif Sane, and Hamza Mendyl haven’t worked, while big names like Shkordon Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac arrived during the season, but they have failed to make an impact.
Royal Blues have the worst goal ratio and conversion rate, also they have lacked in creativity by just creating 190 chances in this season so far and they are preparing a life in the second division.
Schalke to swiftly bounce back next season?
Schalke have big tradition and good memories in the old times in the Bundesliga, so its a difficult situation for the club and fans to deal with. They will be an top club in second division and every small clubs will do everything to beat them but they need to have big plans to bounce back.
Schalke were among 16 founding members of the inaugural Bundesliga in 1963, Hamberg another historical club were relegated from the league for the first time in 2018 and yet to return.
It has been a dismal season for the club, Schalke produced numerious talents like Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sane, Mesut Ozil, Benedikt Howedes and Julian Draxler were famed from their academy. And now its time to re-build the club in second league with possible young players.
