Moises Caicedo misses out as Ecuador head coach decided to rest him for the upcoming friendlies, due to fitness concerns.
Ecuador boss leaves out Moises Caicedo
Moises Caicedo’s name missing from Ecuador’s latest squad list raised a few eyebrows. The Chelsea player just scored a goal in his team’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool. He looks to be in great form. The player has been among the Blues’ most trusted players this season. He has started every PL game so far.
Meanwhile, Ecuador head coach Sebastian Beccacece even recently mentioned Caicedo is among the 3 best midfielders in the world. That’s why fans were stunned to see him dropped for the October friendlies against the USA and Mexico.
As per reports, the decision wasn’t about form but fatigue. Sources close to the Ecuador camp revealed Chelsea had been in contact over Caicedo’s growing discomfort during recent games. He played until the last minute against Liverpool, but it’s said that he’s been dealing with a minor issue.
Given his packed schedule, Beccacece decided it was smarter to give him a breather rather than risk a long-term injury.
Chelsea’s busy schedule taking a toll
Caicedo’s workload this season has been heavy. After helping Chelsea lift the Club World Cup in July, he barely had time to recover. He’s featured in every league and UC match so far, rarely substituted. That is a lot of run for a 23-year-old thriving on energy and a pressing style.
This short rest could be key for both club and country. Chelsea need their midfield engine firing on all fronts. For Ecuador, they can’t afford to lose their star man ahead of World Cup qualifiers.
Author’s Opinion:
This isn’t a setback, it’s smart management. Giving Caicedo time off now might just save Chelsea and Ecuador from a bigger problem later in the season.
