Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti calls for respect in the press conference after El Clasico. He said,
“To call this loss a humiliation is a lack of respect.“
Real Madrid keep up with their glassy form since the World Cup with a 3-1 loss to Barcelona in the Super Cup final. A game that was very different from the one in October.
The Boss was clearly far from pleased as nothing went his way on the night. He claimed the loss of individual battles and flimsy possession as the main cause of the loss in the final. He admitted that Barcelona played better and their mistakes were punished.
Real Madrid’s Mistakes
Real Madrid‘s lack of possession in the game cost them the match. Whilst they’re a formidable counter-attacking team, against Barcelona they had to be cautious. Militao and Mendy are two players who get caught out of possession in their own halves. They had to be more composed than they failed to be. Secondly, the lack of defensive solidity and leaking in 16 games out of the 22 makes it a concern. Risky pressing, unnecessary aggression on and off the ball, and lack of discipline have brought them down. The vulnerability the Los Blancos have in the right wing is gaping. Araujo emerged as a winner in the key Vinicius-Araujo matchup.
According to Ancelotti, the players are hurt.
“This is a team that normally wins finals. But, we have everything we need to get better. Real Madrid will bounce back.”
Real Madrid are a “Team of Dreams” but they have to work for it and earn it like they did last season in Europe. They were simply not good enough. Ancelotti needs to find a rhythm before things spin out of control.
Amidst all these come injury woes. With Lucas Vazquez and Camavinga both facing discomfort and Tchouameni and Alaba already out due to muscle injuries, Ancelotti faces an uphill task.
