Real Madrid have been in tremendous form ever since Carlo Ancelotti took over last season. The Manager returned to the Spanish capital from Everton for a second stint. The Italian led the Los Blancos to a League and Champions League double in his very first season back. However, the club failed to make a real impact in the domestic cup competition.
Astonishingly, Real Madrid has not won the Copa Del Rey since the 2013/14 season. It has been 8 years since the club even reached the finals of the competition. Interestingly, Los Blancos won the Copa Del Rey under the management of Carlo Ancelotti himself. During his first stint, the club won the Copa Del Rey and Champions League double in 2013/14.
Gareth Bale scored a famous goal in the final of the competition against Barcelona at the expense of Marc Bartra. Reportedly, the club has asked the veteran manager to focus on the competition this season and bring the trophy home.
Carlo Ancelotti has been tasked to win the treble for Real Madrid
The Italian Manager has been asked to focus on the domestic cup competition along with La Liga and UEFA Champions League. The club hierarchy wants the team to try and push for a treble this season. The board believes that they have been missing out on an important trophy in Copa Del Rey.
Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao have surpassed Real Madrid in all-time wins record. The Los Blancos have won the title 19 times but haven’t even reached the Final in the last 8 years. Carlo Ancelotti will have to delve deep into his squad to ensure that they remain competitive in all three competitions this year.
It will be a huge task as the players will also have an exhausting winter due to the FIFA World Cup. However, it is normal to have high expectations from players plying their trade for Real Madrid as it is the best club in the world and rewards its players in line with its reputation. Hopefully, the squad will be able to push for a treble this year!!
