About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Former FC Goa’s left-back is all set for his homecoming. Carlos Pena is being finalized by FC Goa as their head coach. With paperwork still pending, the appointment of Carlos Pena will surely give FC Goa fans a great sigh of relief.

Last season Juan Ferrando left the job of FC Goa manager midway after receiving offers from ATKMB. Derrick Pereira was appointed as an interim manager but he failed to deliver the desired result. FC Goa finished at the 9th position of the table which is surely a huge setback for the club.

Playing career

Carlos Pena started his football career for the reserve team of Barcelona. After that, he went on to play for Albacete, Recreativo Huelva, Real Oviedo , Getafe and Lorca FC. He has the experience of playing 55 matches in La Liga. Pena was also a former member of the Gaurs where he won the Super Cup and ISL League winners shield. He played 34 matches in ISL scoring 2 goals.

Pena also has the experience of representing the Spanish U-21 team on 10 occasions.

Carlos Pena as coach

The Spaniard also has some experience coaching in Spanish Lower divisions. He managed the youth team of Lorca before managing the youth team of UCAM Murcia. He also was on the coaching staff list of Lleida esportieu before becoming the manager of the Albacete Balompie Youth team.

Though Carlos Pena has limited experience as the head coach, he is the person who knows FC Goa better than anyone else. Also due to his previous experience with FC Goa, he understands the emotions of the fans better. He has a big task to cut out as already some of the foreign players are on the verge of leaving FC Goa. Also, some of the Indian players may also leave the squad. With a depleting squad, Carlos Pena seems to be the right person to lead FC Goa to the desired success.
