INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE







The Indian Super League (ISL) is the top professional football league in India. They founded the league in 2013 with the aim of promoting football in India. Meanwhile, it has become one of the most popular sporting leagues in the country.

 

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) founded the Indian Super League in 2013 in collaboration with IMG-Reliance. Meanwhile, IMG Worldwide and Reliance Industries are in a joint venture for it. They launched the league with eight teams, and since then, it has grown to 11 teams. The league follows a franchise system, where individual owners or consortiums own the teams. Meanwhile, it is similar to other franchise-based sports leagues around the world.

 

The Indian Super League has two major trophies. Meanwhile, this includes the ISL Shield and the ISL Cup. The ISL Shield is awarded to the team that finishes at the top of the league table at the end of the regular season, while the ISL Cup is awarded to the team that wins the knockout stage of the playoffs.

 

The Indian Super League has seen significant growth in revenues since its inception. According to reports, the league’s revenue in the 2020-21 season was around INR 160 crore, with the majority of the revenue coming from sponsorships, broadcasting rights, and ticket sales. The league has also attracted investments from prominent Indian and international companies, such as Tata Group and Atletico Madrid.

 

The Indian Super League has seen the emergence of some fierce rivalries between the teams over the years. One of the most notable rivalries in the league is between Mumbai City FC and FC Goa, known as the “Mumbai-Goa” rivalry. The rivalry began in the inaugural season of the league when Mumbai City FC defeated FC Goa in the semi-finals. Another notable rivalry is between ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal, known as the “Kolkata Derby”. The rivalry dates back to the early days of Indian football and has now been revived in the Indian Super League.

 

This league has played a significant role in the development of football in India. The league has provided a platform for Indian footballers to showcase their talent and has attracted investments from both Indian and international companies. With the league continuing to grow in popularity, it is set to become a major force in the world of football.
