Indian National Team called up for the upcoming SAFF Championship

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

India has named the National Team that will feature at the SAFF Championship which will start on October 1, 2021. The 5 team Championship will feature India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and hosts the Maldives. India will begin their campaign on the 4th against Bangladesh.

India is currently 107th in the Global FIFA Rankings. After a bad run at the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, the National team will look to bounce back in true fashion. This could be the team’s best chance to get back into the sub 100 rankings. Head Coach Igor Stimac has named a strong squad that will be out to grab all that they can.

Sunil Chettri will lead the squad as he always has. Udanta Singh and Jeakson Singh have returned to the squad. Coach Stimac feels that his squad will surely benefit from the games. The Indian Super League will start by mid-November and thus the players will get a few minutes under their belt.

Stimac knows that the next 4-5 games will be crucial as the squad will not be together for a while after this. The 3rd round AFC Asia Cup Qualifiers are coming up and the team will need this exposure.
