Post-Match Analysis: Kerala Blasters FC 1-1 SC East Bengal

The struggle continues for Kerala Blasters FC as they draw 1-1 against SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League fixture at GMC stadium.

The clash of the two bottom teams of the league was a joy to watch. Jeakson Singh’s injury-time equaliser helped Kerala snatch a point with a 1-1 draw against East Bengal on Sunday.

Kerala Blasters 1-1 East Bengal Team News and Analysis:

Both teams made four changes in their starting eleven on the matchday.

Match got really interesting for fans when Kerala dominated the possession but East Bengal was looking more threatening as they created more chances and better opportunities and deservingly got the Lead also When Bakary Kone tried to clear the ball but ended up putting it in his own net.

Kerala made three substitutions during the break which helped them and started strong in the second half. Kibu Vicuna’s men nearly drew level in the 51st minute when another big chance went for a toss as Kone failed to lead his header to the goal. They were again denied in the 70th minute thanks to East Bengal’s keeper who did a great job-saving in denying Murray’s volley.

The profligacy was finally punished in injury time when Jeakson managed to head in a cross from Sahal. However, East Bengal have only themselves to blame for sitting back too much and failing to put away their own chances. 

KERALA BLASTERS AND EAST BENGAL NOT CLINICAL ENOUGH:

The game showed that both teams are lacking the clinical finish against Kerala Blasters had 17 shots on target and managed to score only 1 whereas East Bengal also had 12 shots capitalizing only 1.

East Bengal’s coach Robbie Fowler stated after the draw;

“We are disappointed. It is a game we should have won. We had enough chances to win more than one game. We need to be a little bit more clinical in the final third,”

Whereas Kibu Vicuna said he is proud of the team’s “fighting spirit” that it showed during the clash against SC East Bengal before adding that it was his side’s “best match” of the season so far.

Kerala Blasters’ Gomez gave an outstanding performance and completed 72 passes, twice more than any SC East Bengal player.

SC East Bengal’s Jeakson stole the spotlight by scoring the decisive goal in injury time.

Kerala Blasters will face Hyderabad FC in their next match on a Sunday evening at GMC stadium. SC East Bengal on the other hand will face Chennaiyin FC at Tilak Maidan This Saturday.
