AS Roma are reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as per the report in Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport

The 25-year-old joined the Blues as an eight-year boy and made his senior debut back in 2014 under the current Giallorossi manager José Mourinho. The midfielder was deemed to be one of the best young midfielders in the west Londoners’ academy, however, following his long-term injury a couple of seasons back, the Englishman has lost his way in recent years.

According to Corriere dello Sport, after signing Tammy Abraham the Roma manager is looking to bring in yet another Chelsea man Ruben Loftus-Cheek before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. The Giallorossi are looking for a new midfielder this summer, having failed to sign Granit Xhaka. And the 25-year-old is one of the options in the Portuguese manager’s wishlist.

Apart from the Englishman, Roma are also interested in Danis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach and Fulham midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Mourinho wants a physically strong midfielder and the Englishman will fit in that criteria perfectly.

Roma are looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek:

After signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, the Blues are still hoping to add two more signings before the end of the transfer window. Thomas Tuchel wants a defender and Jules Kounde is their number one target for that position. The German boss is also keen on buying a new midfielder. And the European Champions are eyeing a move for Atlético Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

So, in order to sign all the intended targets, the Blues management are trying to cash in on some players. Abraham has already sealed a big-money move to Roma and Kurt Zouma is another name who is looking likely to leave the club. So, cashing in on Loftus-Cheek will free up space for a new midfielder.

On the other hand, Roma are building a long-term project under the new manager José Mourinho. The Serie A giants have already signed four players in this transfer window and bringing on the Chelsea man will provide more options for the Roma boss to achieve success in the Italian capital.
