Cesare Casadei is really shining for Chelsea in recent days. Enzo Maresca has done a great job with him so far. The 21-year-old Italian continues to impress in his role as a midfielder. Although, things were not the same from the beginning for the midfielder. The Blues have been very active in the transfer market in the recent years. In fact, they had a squad of 40+ first team players to begin with this season. So, there was a lot of competition for places. With all due respect, the 21-year-old was not the among the first names in the team sheet. So, he could be looking at little game time with the London side.
Cesare Casadei came close to leaving Chelsea again
As per wikipedia, the 21-year-old joined Inter’s academy in 2018. Then, the Blues made a deal for him for about €15 million in 2022 on a six-year contract. He would join Reading on loan in 2022. He would go on to make 15 appearances for them. Thereafter, he joined Leicester on loan in 2023, featuring 25 times for the Foxes. 2023 was a big year for him. He would go on to win the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball for Italy at the FIFA U20 World Cup. As a result, Cesare Casadei was in search of regular football at Chelsea. But, with so many players and competition, he was looking for a move away again.
Casadei’s u-turn: Enzo Maresca makes him stay
Pochettino actually recalled the midfielder from his loan prematurely. As a result, the 21-year-old was unable to start a single game for the Foxes. So, he was already in doubt of his future due to lack of game time. As a result, he was all set for a loan move again. As per bbc, he never really wanted to leave the London side permanently. Cesare Casadei made it clear that he always wanted to play for Chelsea. He had a talk with Enzo Maresca. The manager was able to convince him to stay and fight for his place. As a result, the 21-year-old continues to improve and find time on the field for the Blues. So far, he has been quite impressive for them already.
