Cesare Casadei told to leave Chelsea after talks with Italy manager

Cesare Casadei has been advised to leave Chelsea for his own good in January by his Italy U-21 national team manager.

Sitting on the bench is something every footballer hates. That is the case of Cesare Casadei who joined Chelsea in 2022 and is yet to crack into the first eleven or play regularly. He is a regular for the Italian U-21 side coached by Carmine Nunziata and was the player of the tournament in the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023. Nunziata has now urged the former Inter youth product to look for greener pastures. The Italian has only featured twice this season and never in the Premier League. What more could have you expected in team full of gestating talents? However Cesare Casadei later makes his feelings known.

CESARE CASADEI TIME AT CHELSEA

Casadei joined Chelsea during the 2022 summer from Italian giants Inter Milan for 15 million pounds. The midfielder was part of the Chelsea you system and then gradually made his way to the first team squad. He enjoyed a few loan spells at Championship clubs Reading and Leicester City. But he is yet to complete a full season with a club either on loan or at Chelsea. At Reading he just played the second half of 2022/23 season on loan making 15 appearances and scoring just one goal. Then again, he went on loan the following season to Leicester City under Enzo Maresca.

It was promising start to his life with Leicester and he really fit into the system Maresca played. But unfortunately when injuries piled up at Chelsea he was recalled and the dream run was over. He spent the rest of the season as a bench warmer at his parent club.

As the 2024/25 season began, Mauricio Pochettino was gone and a familiar face of Enzo Maresca took charge. With the previous experience with the Italian, Casadei and his well-wishers might have thought for a better season. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, Even though Casadei knew about Maresca’s game plan it was hard to compete with the quality of players within the squad. As it stands Casadei remains as part of the reserves of the second team. So the chances are going to be meager and he has to maximize those instances.

WHAT CARMINE NUNZIATA SAID?

The Italian U-21 manager Carmine Nunziata has urged his star Cesare Casadei to leave Chelsea for more game time. According to the Mirror “Last year Cesare had a good first part with Leicester, then he went to Chelsea and played little,” Nunziata told Rai Radio 1 Sport. “This year they [Chelsea] kept him there, I advised him to see how it goes until January, otherwise it’s right to look around for another solution.”

Basically he means that with the whole lot of talents within the Chelsea team it would be good to look for better options elsewhere. He used the example of Mattia Zanotti, “The important thing is that the boys play. If they find a team in Italy, even better. But the experience abroad is also formative. For example, after playing in Switzerland, I found [Mattia] Zanotti to have improved a lot and grown a lot.”

The same can be said about Riccardo Calafiori. He began his career with AS Roma and then for game time he moved to FC Basel in the Swiss League. That move paid off as he got the game time he needed to develop. His performance for Basel caught the eye of Bologna and now he plays for Arsenal and Italy consistently. So yes we also think that it would be good for both parties that Casadei finds a new home.

As per the reports there are clubs in Spain and Italy who are keeping an eye of the 21 year old. Clubs like Villarreal, Atalanta and Fiorentina are the sort of clubs that help young talents to develop.
