It was because the midfielder wanted to be important somewhere else. Fabregas went to London in the week between the season and world cup to assess the situation.
Fabregas told Barca his decision to leave the club before the 2014 World Cup. He then met with the representative of three clubs on the same day. It all happened in the house of his agent named Darren Dein.
Fabregas first contacted Man United manager David Moyes. Then he met Txiki Begiristain who was Man City director. Lastly, he met Jose Mourinho who was Chelsea manager at that time and who convinced Fabregas to join them.
Cesc Fabregas said that you know a lot about something by only talking. Mourinho told Fabregas that there was no other way than joining Chelsea. Fabregas was having doubts due to once playing for Arsenal. However, he said that he was at his peak of his career and Mourinho motivated him to take another challenge.
