CFL 2021: IFA might impose a penalty on ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The governing body of football at West Bengal IFA will have to penalize ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal for not participating in the ongoing Calcutta Football league (CFL).

Last Sunday Mariners had their opening match against George Telegraph at the Kalyani Stadium. However, the team did not show up at the venue. As per the league rules, the opponent team waited for15 minutes at the stadium. Later the Telegraph had a walkover as Mohun Bagan missed to field a team and collected three points.

As per the current situation participation of both ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal in the CFL seems almost unlikely. Joydeep Mukherjee, Secretary of IFA (football governing body of West Bengal) mentioned that the league will continue as per the schedule, and alterations in the fixtures will not be done.

“The league will continue as it is. The 12 other clubs have agreed that they will continue to play in the competition. If East Bengal and Mohun Bagan want to join midway then they can as their fixtures are already chalked out. Otherwise, it will be treated as walkovers,” – stated IFA secretary Joydeep Mukherjee

Will both clubs face relegations in the CFL ?

Before the league kick-started IFA decided to shorten the CFL due to the current pandemic situation. At the same time, they decided not to relegate any team for this edition of the League.

As of now, neither of both teams have a reserve team that can participate in the CFL. Despite the fact that both teams are not in the situation to participate in the League at the present moment but they can anyhow join the competition midway. If not the opponents will get a walkover and will enjoy the three points.

The IFA are going to conduct a meeting on September 2nd and this matter will be one of the major discussion of the meeting.
