Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle: Post-match Analysis and Notable Performances

Chelsea beat Newcastle United at home at Stamford Bridge very easily in the Premier League by 2-0 on Monday night.

Oliver Giroud and Timo Werner were two first-half scorers for Chelsea in this encounter and Newcastle didn’t reach the level to beat Thomas Tuchel’s side.

With this win Chelsea now move up to the fourth place with 42 points in 24 games and The Magpies are now in big trouble, they are 17th with 25 points in 24 games.

Thomas Tuchel made few changes as he is trying to give everyone time and understand the best Xl. Kepa Arrizabalaga started for the first time in four months.

Tammy Abraham led the line for the Blues and Oliver Giroud was on the bench and Timo Werner started as the second striker position.

Steve Bruce went with 4-3-1-2 diamond formation. In the absence of Callum Wilson Allan Saint-Maximin and Dwight Gayle led the line for Newcastle. Miguel Almiron the Paraguayan started as a no 10.

Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle United post-match analysis:

Chelsea completely dominated the first half and created a lot of chances for themselves. The Blues exploited the diamond system of Newcastle and utilised the flanks quite a few times.

Chelsea got their goal from Werner’s great run and a supercross. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow just put the hand on the cross and substitute Giroud scored in an open net from the follow-up ball.

Chelsea managed to find the second before the end of the first half. A corner from the right went to Werner through a deflection and Timo Werner broke his goal drought in the Premier League by a simple tap in.

In the second half, Kepa was much busier than he was in the first half and made a couple of saves to keep the clean sheet in his return.

Chelsea were not able to create many opportunities as they did in the first half and they only made two untroubled on targets for Darlow.

Notable performances:

Timo Werner(LF) – (7/10)(Chelsea): He was much livelier than he has been so far and also scored after 15 league games. He made a big impact on the first goal.

Mateo Kovacic(CM) – (7.5/10)(Chelsea): He covered a lot of ground and also distributed the ball quite well. He was very good at this game.

Joseph Willock(CM) – (5/10)(Newcastle United): The on-loan man from Arsenal didn’t entertain much the Newcastle United fans and he was not good in this game.

Chelsea will play next away to Southampton in the Premier League on Friday and Newcastle’s next game is against Manchester United in the league at Old Trafford on Sunday night.
