Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge as Timo Werner scored and assisted another goal by Olivier Giroud.

With the win, the Blues are now in the 4th place whereas the Magpies are at the wrong end of the table.

However, they are 6 points clear from the dropzone sitting at 17th position in the Premier League standings.

Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle United : Werner close to his best form

Kepa Arizzabalaga (7.5/10) – Kepa was forced into some brilliant saves to deny Newcastle United attackers. However, he deserves the clean sheet alongside his hardworking defenders.

Antonio Rudiger (6/10) – The defense wasn’t tested much initially but Rudiger managed some good defending whenever needed.

Cesar Azpilicueta (7/10) – The skipper was really leading his team from behind and also, came near to adding a third goal for the London side.

Andreas Christensen (6.5/10) – He was really sound in defence in this fixture and has helped the team cope up with the absence of veteram defemder Thiago Silva.

Mateo Kovacic (8/10) – He is becoming better and better match after match. Additionally, he is one of the key players that has helped the team win back possession and lead the attacks.

Jorginho (7/10) – He needs to improve on his ability to attack. Thus, it wasn’t one of his best performances.

Marcos Alonso (6.5/10) – He wasn’t tested defensively but had helped the team maintain the possession when it was needed.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (7/10) – One of the key players in Tuchel’s 3-4-3 system. He did play upto the expectations and was defensively sound enough.

Mason Mount (6.5/10) – Mount was a bit slow in the match as he was kept quiet by the Magpies.

Tammy Abraham (NA) – He couldn’t be rated as he left the field just 20 minutes from the start. However, the injury would be a concern for Thomas Tuchel.

Timo Werner (8.5/10) – He was having one of his best games after a wonderful goal and a fantastic assist. Werner deserves to be the Man of the Latch.

Substitutes

Olivier Giroud (7.5/10) – Giroud came to the rescue as a supersub when it was needed the most.

N’Golo Kante (6/10) and Reece James (6/10) ensured that the team will not concede any goals.

The Pensioners next travel to Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League.
