Chelsea have added one Paris Saint-Germain to their list of January options. The player is currently very heavily linked with Manchester United.
The star in question here is PSG fullback Nuno Mendes. The 22 year old first joined the French club in 2021 on loan from Sporting CP. He then earned a permanent transfer to French capital in 2022 after impressing with his performances.
Mendes is one of the best left backs in the world football right now. He is key player for both PSG and Portugal. He has so far played 100 games for PSG whereas has 33 appearances for Portugal national team.
Mendes is very heavily linked with move away from France this year. As of now, Man United are the frontrunners in the race to sign him. They are keen to transform their current squad and left back is the top priority of the club.
Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been highly injury prone. Nuno Mendes can be an quality upgrade over both of them right now. In addition, he can help his compatriot Ruben Amorim in his system of playing wing-backs due to his amazing attacking traits.

According to Simon Phillis, the Blues have added Mendes to their wishlist for January window. They can have lead over United as Enzo Maresca is looking very likely to guide Chelsea in the top four finish and thus qualify for Champions League. Man United are far away from even qualifying for Conference League.
Chelsea do have a very good squad but they have always shown interest in improving even further. Mendes is 22 years old and fits in their strategy of hiring young players. In addition, Ben Chilwell is very likely to move away this month which is open up space in left back position.
