Chelsea aim to seal Joao Felix deal

After the collapse of Samu Omorodion deal, Chelsea were offered a chance to sign Portuguese striker Joao Felix.

Chelsea are in talks to seal the deal for a shock return of Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge. This also facilitates Atletico Madrid to complete the signing of Conor Gallagher which had been agreed earlier this month.

GALLAGHER DEAL

Gallagher’s move to Atletico Madrid was left in limbo after a deal for Samu Omorodion to Chelsea fell through last weekend. Chelsea and Atletico Madrid had agreed a deal worth 33M pounds for the transfer of Conor Gallagher. The deal also facilitated young Spanish striker Samu Omorodion to move in the opposite direction. All was good. Gallagher flew to Madrid to complete the final stages of transfer. Omorodion had traveled to London to complete the move. The deal collapsed in final minutes over the weekend and now it’s 100% off. Both deal were dealt seperately even though they were depended on each other. With the Omorodion deal off, Atletico were forced to find funds to sign Gallagher. They needed to find a solution.

FELIX AND CHELSEA

The solution Atletico found was to propose a deal which would facilitate the return of Joao Felix back to Chelsea. The Portuguese striker had spent a six month loan period with The Blues in the first half of 2023. During his brief stay he scored four goals in 20 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. Felix also expressed his wish to move permanently.

“I don’t know yet my future, but these four or five months, I’ve loved it,” He said at the time, according to The Mirror.

Anyway Mauricio Pochetino the then manager of Chelsea didn’t want to sign. Felix ended up returning to Madrid and went on loan to Barcelona later that year. After tensions grew with the Atletico management they wanted a permanent sale for the ex Benfica star. After splashing big on the signing of Julian Alvarez from Man City they have to make funds to sign Gallagher. Alvarez became the most expensive sale in Manchester City history. Felix had a descent season on loan at Bracelona. He recorded 10 goals and 6 assists in 44 matches. With the asking price deemed too expensive Barcelona opted not go ahead with the permanent transfer.

CHELSEA, ATLETICO, GALLAGHER AND FELIX

As negotiations between the clubs progress Conor Gallagher is in Madrid. The England star has been staying in a Hotel in Madrid for the last five days. And still hasn’t found out where is his future. One video has surfaced of reporters asking him directly about his Atletico transfer.

As it stands negotiations are progressing between Chelsea and Atletico for finding the right price for the transfer of Felix. Meanwhile Chelsea have asked Gallagher to fly back to London until there is an agreement between the clubs. This doesn’t mean that the deal off. Gallagher is likely to leave Chelsea after turning down three contract offers from him boyhood club. Despite having photos taken and medicals done the transfer is yet to be completed. Joao Felix is among the good interests of Chelsea management and they are in favor of his return to SW6. Joao Felix has already agreed for a return. Jorge Mendes is in England to discuss Joao Felix to Chelsea and Manuel Ugarte to Man Utd transfers. According to trusted football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

CONCLUSION

Despite Omorodion deal collapse, Atletico still want Gallagher. So the negotiations are still going on. Gallagher may have to return to London. But both clubs are optimistic about the transfer to happen. Clubs will continue negotiating for the transfer throughout the week, as these transfers depend on each other.
