It’s been almost a month since Chelsea hosted the game against Nottingham Forest in the match day 7 of the Premier League. That fixture created a lot of chaos for both the clubs, going into the international break. Though the Blues dominated the whole game but still the results weren’t that fruitful.
After a goalless first half, the away team took not more than 3 minutes into the second half to take a lead at the Bridge by the goal from Chris Wood. However, Forest fans didn’t able to celebrate it long enough as Chelsea’s star winger Noni Madueke scored a beautiful goal from a solo effort.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw at the end. But some controversial incidents took place at the closing stages of the game. And for which both the clubs were under the investigation of The Football Association (FA).
What happened during the game?
At the closing stages of the game, players from both the sides got into a fight, which led to a serious concern. The chaos started when, Forest defender Neco Williams pushed Marc Cucurella into the Blues manager Enzo Maresca.
Neco was running with the ball at the 87th minute to create a counter-attack, but failed to continue his run as the ball went out of play. Behind him, Cucurella was chasing the ball and as it went out of play, the fullback, who wanted to do a quick throw-in, was pushed from the back by Neco. Losing his balance, the Spaniard stumbled into his manager which brought the Italian down.
After that incident, Chelsea defenders Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill ran into Neco to confront him. And suddenly players from both the sides crumbled upon each other to stop the fight. However, Blues striker Nicolas Jackson, who was already substituted earlier was captured slapping Forest defender Morato in face.
FA takes action against Chelsea and the Nottingham
The incident of Jackson slapping Morato took over the internet right away after it happened. But the FA decided not to take any action against the Senegalese striker. But they decided to charge both the sides, as it was the club’s fault that they didn’t able to control their players.
And after almost three weeks since the incident happened on 6th October, the FA have finally issued the punishment. Both Chelsea and Forest are fined for £50,000 & £150,000 respectively. As they failed to control their players which led to a on pitch melee.
But the fine has been deducted by the FA, because both the clubs have admitted their fault. And now the Blues will have to pay £40,000 and the Forests will have to pay £125,000. It is a larger fine to the Forest because of their disciplinary issues. As they have been involved in such incidents for the 6th time in the last three years. Where as it is Chelsea’s only 3rd time in the last five years.
What’s next for Chelsea
That charge will not cause much of a headache for the Chelsea management. As they will be more focused on their fixtures before the New Year’s. As of now the Blues are at the 5th place with 17 points, just a point behind Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
After the win against Newcastle last weekend, Chelsea will again face the them on Thursday in the knockout stages of the EFL cup. After that setting aside the Conference league fixtures, few big games are waiting for the Blues in the league.
As in span of a month from 3rd November to 8th December, Chelsea will be facing Manchester United away, Arsenal at home, Villa at home and the Spurs away from home. It will be a nerve cracking month for the Blues supporters.
