Chelsea are close to signing De Jong

Barcelona

Chelsea are now optimistic about landing Frenkie De Jong. The Blues have upped their efforts to get the dutchman. The English side are in dire need of a World class ball carrier as they look to compete for the Premier League title. But Chelsea came into the picture quite late. Manchester United were the ones to sign De Jong this summer but Chelsea now seems to have hijacked the move.

De Jong has had a long summer so far. The Midfielder does not want to leave but might be forced to. Barcelona have made it clear that he will have to accept one of the 2 propositions they have given him. Either he leaves the club or he reduces his wages. Frenkie and his agent have said no to decreasing their wages as they already did so in 2020. Xavi has informed Frenkie about the sporting reasons for which he wants him to stay.

With him being the highest earner at the club, the club won’t be able to register all their new signings if a solution is not there. De Jong reportedly prefers Chelsea over Manchester United. He is not willing to play Europa League football and has made it clear to Manchester United. Despite Barcelona reaching an agreement with Manchester United, Frenkie De Jong has been adamant to stay at Barcelona. It is still not known whether he will be leaving his beloved club for the Premier League.

De Jong Disappointed with Barcelona

Frenkie De Jong is yet to hit his Ajax form for Barcelona. But he has shown glimpses of his world-class ability on the ball. With Sergio Busquets still delivering the goods, Frenkie plays as a Central midfielder for the club. Xavi is a big fan of the Dutchman but has admitted that he does not handle the financial aspects. He would love to keep him at the club, given his ability but that will be decided by the club only.

This treatment of De Jong and his situation has earned Barcelona massive criticism for how they treat their best players. The club is keeping him in the middle, with no surety of whether he would leave or he would stay. Frenkie has also expressed his disappointment with how his situation is being treated. The Dutchman had made it clear many times that he does not want to leave. But it looks like his next club is going to be Chelsea.
