Chelsea, Barcelona, Aston Villa and Lyon are all fined by UEFA. All of these clubs will need to pay up due to breaching financial rules. The French side can lose more than just the money.
UEFA have taken some decisive actions recently. They have fined 4 clubs due to failure in complying with financial rules. Out of the 4 clubs, two are English clubs who are also on the verge to breach the Premier League profitability and sustainability rules.
UEFA fines 4 clubs due to financial breaches
As reported by News 18, UEFA have fined all Chelsea, Barcelona, Aston Villa and Lyon. The French side can lose more than money very soon. They are relegated to Ligue 2 due to financial breaches in French league. If the relegation is confirmed, they will miss European football in the 2025/26 season.
Chelsea are fined €20 million due to failure in meeting UEFA’s break even requirements. In addition, they are fined €11 million more due to exceeding the 80% threshold on squad cost. The Blues will need to register sales soon or they may face problems from Premier League PSR.
On the other hand, Barca are fined with €15 million due to excessive financial losses. Lyon have been fined with €12.5 million ad Villa are the club who have been fined with least amount of money that is €5 million. But, Villa like Chelsea are on the verge to breach Premier League PSR too.
Chelsea and Aston Villa need to step-up their selling business
There have been no significant sales registered by either Chelsea or Aston Villa. The Blues have been linked with away moves for multiple stars. But, they are currently still focused on new signings. On the other hand, Unai Emery also has list ready on which players he is prepared to lose. One of the big names on that list is Ollie Watkins who can be sold for a high price.
