Chelsea boss admits he made a mistake

Chelsea are enjoying a very good spell of football in the recent days. They have now won three straight matches and are hoping to continue that. The Blues will now face Brighton in the Premier League and their boss spoke to the press before the game. Enzo Maresca thinks that he made a mistake by not picking Ben Chilwell earlier in the season.

Chilwell was one of the players in the bomb squad of Chelsea. He was told by Mareca to find a new club for himself in the summer market. Later, the former Leicester star was dropped from the first team and was forced to train differently.

Despite not having future at Chelsea, Chilwell was not able to find the new club due to injuries. He was then linked with Turkish and Saudi clubs but no deal was able to materialize. Chilwell stayed at Chelsea and finally received an opportunity to play for the first time this season in a Carabao Cup match against Barrow.

Chilwell was able to put on an impressive performance against Barrow. He was praised by Chelsea fans and Enzo Maresca was also happy. Maresca has now said that they now need Chilwell. He added that Chilly (Chilwell) is a Chelsea player as long as he is with them. Lastly, Chelsea boss said that if they need Chilwell they will give him a chance and minutes.

Maresca was also asked if he made mistake in dropping Chilwell earlier. To this question, the Chelsea boss gave a good response will may suggest that he did made a mistake.

“We all make mistakes. Probably yes, probably no. I am here to take decisions. Sometimes they are good decisions ans sometimes they are not good. The only thing I can say is that there is not any bad intention from me. It is just to see things and try to think about the best things for the club” – Enzo Maresca in the recent press conference.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport that Chilwell wants to stay and fight for his place back in the starting eleven. He said the fullback has five days a week to learn and adapt his game. He added that Chilwell may be thinking more about Chelsea than an exit at this moment.
