Chelsea had to face defeat against Fulham at their home on boxing day. They took the lead in the 16th minute but were unable to preserve it. As a result, they have dropped 3 important points in the Premier League title race.
Palmer scored for the Blues in the 16th minute from Colwill’s assist. But, it was the only goal scored by the hosts. Fulham boss made some crucial changes in second half which changed the outcome of the game.
Wilson and Muniz who both came on as subs scored on 82nd and 90+6th minute respectively. This helped the visitors to leave Stamford Brige with three points. This later raised some tough questions about Maresca’s tactics.
Maresca made only 1 change in the game. He brough on Christopher Nkunku in 73rd minute for Nicolas Jackson. The Italian was then asked about why Madueke was absent and why Felix was not given game time.
Maresca said that Madueke was absent due to technical decision. He made it clear that it is not related to injury. He refused to say anything more but had some good points regarding Joao Felix snub.
Chelsea boss opens up about Felix snub
Enzo Maresca is often known for taking bold decisions. He likes to stick with his plans and do what he thinks is best in his view. He did it once again as he refused to make anymore than 1 substitution. Maresca gave the exact reason behind Felix snub.
“We decided to snub on Nkunku for Nico. Joao plays more or less the same position as Cole Palmer. They played together already but it’s also a matter of balance. That’s why he didn’t enter today” – Maresca about Felix snub via Llyod Canfield.
The Blues are still on the second position in the Premier League. This is their first loss after 12 matches across all competitions. But, they can go down in points table if Arsenal win their match tomorrow.
