Chelsea boss shares insight about summer signing’s exit

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca opened up about the latest exit of their superstar. The star has left the Blues on loan despite joining them only in the summer of 2024.

The star in question here is Joao Felix. The 25 year old joined the Blues in summer for second time in his career. This time it was on permanent transfer and the West London club paid £43 million to get the deal over the line.

However, Felix found it hard to start games regularly under Maresca. He started only 3 Premier League games despite playing well in other competitions. As a result, he opted to move away from West London after only half season.

Felix has left Chelsea on loan with 7 goals and 2 assists this season. He has joined AC Milan and has started his career with them by scoring in his debut match. But, there is no buy option in this deal which hints that Felix may have more to his career in Blue jersey.

Chelsea boss opens up about Felix’s move and future

Firstly, Maresca was asked wheter Felix was signed behind his back in summer. The Italian coach rejected this straight away and said Felix was signed because he wanted the player in the squad. Later, Maresca was asked if Felix still has future with Chelsea.

“I don’t know about the future. It’s complicated to talk about the future. For me, it’s just about now and the reason why Joao left is because of his desire is to get more minutes. Here since we started, he struggled to get minutes, and he wants to leave because he wants to play more. It’s no more than that” – Maresca as reported by The Standard.

Lastly, Maresca said that sometimes you can buy players but after 6 months you will find it that it is better for both club, manager and player to part ways. These comments hint that Felix may move away permanently in summer but it is still very early to predict anything.
