Chelsea boss wants one top talent to “stay with them”

Enzo Maresca wants one of their top talents to stay with them. The talent in question is Josh Acheampong who just signed a new contract with Chelsea.

Acheampong signed a new and improved contract with Chelsea. He has signed 4.5 years contract which will extend his stay at West London until 2029. His previous contract was set to expire in 2026.

There was a fallout between the star and club eariler. Acheampong was unwilling to sign a new contract which forced Chelsea to take a harsh decision. The Blues told the player that he will not play any game for first team unless he signs a new contract.

The fallout started to ease from last week. Enzo Maresca provided the update that the talks are headed in positive direction. The Italian boss then handed the 18 year old start in Chelsea’s latest Conference League fixture

Maresca was asked about the future of Acheampong. He was asked wheter the 18 year old will be sent on loan for improvement. Fabrizio Romano has tweeted the response of Maresca about this question.

Maresca said that he prefers Acheampong to stay close with them. He wants the 18 year old to stay with Chelsea and improve instead of moving away on loan. This suggests that the player is close to becoming a first team regular.

Firstly, the player had already shown his quality playing for Chelsea and England youth team. In addition, interest from clubs like Real Madrid speaks itself about the highest quality of the 18 year old.

Acheampong will have a lot of chances to play for the first team this season. It is due to the injury issues faced by Reece James. Malo Gusto didn’t had a quality backup but it will now change. Chelsea fans will hope that Acheampong stays with them for a long time.
