Chelsea are keeping tabs on highly talented Atletico Madrid midfielder. The Blues view him as a potential replacement to Enzo Fernandez who said to leave the club in search of regular game time.
Enzo Maresca is doing a very good job right now at West London. He has taken Chelsea to the the fourth position in the Premier League. It has been revealed that Chelsea board has back the Italian manager and given him the freedom to elect the starting eleven.
Now about the midfield situation, Maresca seems to have found a winning formula. Dewsbury-Hall and Casadei are limited to European competitions and hence are far away from starting place in league. Firstly, Cole Palmer is the best player and will continue to start games.
Lastly, all that is left is the midfield pairing for which Maresca has three candidates. From the recent matches it seems like the Italian has started trusting Romeo Lavia and when he is paired with Moises Caicedo the club is doing really well.
This has affected Enzo Fernandez who Chelsea brought for £107 million. The Argentine is now said to leave the club in search of regular game time. As of now, he has interest from Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Chelsea keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid midfielder
According to Fichajes, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Pablo Barrios. Barrios is 21 years old and has came through Atletico’s academy. The report also says that Spanish giants will demand around €50 million for Barrios.
Barrios has played 68 games so far for Atletico. He has scored 3 goals and picked 4 assists in the process. He can play as a central midfielder or as a holding midfielder. The Blues will find this traits very similar as Fernandez and hence may be tempted to make a move.
There is a good relationship between two clubs and this deal will help Atletico. As Barrios is their academy product, they will make pure profit from the deal. But, the Blues will still take more time to think about making a move. They will very likely monitor Barrios for the rest of the season.
