Chelsea have confirmed their latest signing of young and talented winger. The player is from England but has been impressing in Germany. The Blues have splashed £52 in total for him.
The star in question here is Jamie Gittens. He is 20 year old winger who played for Borussia Dortmund. He mainly plays on left wing but is also able to play on the right and in middle. Gittens had the best season of his career recently where he scored 12 goals and picked 3 assists.
Chelsea were showing interest in Gittens since a long time. Earlier, Dortmund were demanding as high as €100 million for him. But, the 20 year old’s form dipped in the second half of the season. Hence, Dortmund reduced their demands.
The Blues tried to sign Gittens before the start of Club World Cup. They offered £42 million to sign him. But, this offer was quickly rejected by Dortmund despite the player being ready to move. Chelsea were unwilling to give up and kept trying to sign him constantly.
Now, the Blues have confirmed on their official site that they have signed Jamie Gittens. The 20 year old has signed 7 year long contract with Chelsea. The West London club have agreed to pay £48.5 million plus £3.5 million in add-ons.
What next for Chelsea?
The arrival of Gittens have opened exit doors for multiple players. The Blues were already keen to part ways with both Joao Felix and Nkunku. Now, Noni Madueke is very likely to leave as he will not get regular game time for sure. He is very close to sign for Arsenal.
Chelsea are likely to end improving their attacking unit. But, they are linked with move to Mohammed Kudus. As of now, there has been no strong interest from the Blues. It looks like they will now shift their focus to improve their defence.
