Chelsea emerge successful in signing of young Brazilian attacker

Chelsea to go all out to sign Nigerian

Chelsea were showing strong interest in signing Brazilian attacker. But, they were facing heavy competition from Newcastle United. The Blues have now finally defeated the Magpies in the race.

Earlier, Chelsea signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The 22 year old costed them only £30 million. This gave them chance to sign another striker. The Blues were keen to take the chance but wanted a striker with different profile.

Enzo Maresca wanted a striker who can play multiple roles. Hence, the Blues were linked with Hugo Ekitike. But, the French man was made available by Frankfurt for €100 million. Hence, Chelsea turned their attention to other players.

Later, the Blues were linked with Joao Pedro of Brighton. He is young and highly versatile. Hence, he came as a perfect fit but the Blues were facing heavy competition. Newcastle United were keen to sign Pedro and were trying really hard.

Chelsea beat Newcastle in race for Joao Pedro

According to David Ornstein, the Blues have defeated Newcastle in race for Pedro. They will pay Brighton a fee of more than £50 million in coming days. The player will join the Blues in USA where the Blues have qualified for quarter finals.

Pedro was fully focused on joining Chelsea from the start. The interest from Newcastle did not change his mind. As a result, he is now being offered a 7 year long contract at Stamford Bridge. He will soon undergo medicals.

Pedro is likely to play a big role for Enzo Maresca. He can play as all striker, winger and attacking midfielder. Hence, he will be a perfect replacement for both Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku who are set to depart. On the other hand, his arrival has now raised doubts over the future of Nicolas Jackson at Stamford Bridge.
