Chelsea eye 25-year-old Barcelona star as Reece James replacement

Chelsea are aiming to sign Jules Kounde in the winter transfer window. After doing so well in the summer, they are now trying to lure away the Barcelona star. The Blues were keen on signing him 2 years ago in 2022 while he was shining for Sevilla. But, the 25-year-old ended up joining the Blaugrana instead. The defender did clear it out that it was the then-manager Xavi who made him opt for the Spanish giants. But, as of now, Xavi is no longer with the club. So, maybe the Frenchman could consider a move away now. It will be interesting to see if the Blues can sign him mid-season.

Enzo Maresca wants to replace Reece James

As per 3addedminutes, Enzo Maresca has shortlisted 5 possible replacements for the club captain. Reece James is a quality player no doubt. But, he is quite injury prone. At the same time, he struggles with making recoveries too. So, Chelsea consider Jules Kounde to be one of the 5 possible options. Then, Jeremie Frimpong is also in the list. He was excellent with Leverkusen last season. Other alternatives include Michael Kayode, Kiliann Sildillia and Geovany Quenda. But, it seems that Maresca wants the Barcelona star more. Given his quality, the Blues will have to splurge for the 25-year-old.

Is Jules Kounde the best fit for Chelsea?

The 25-year-old is quite versatile in defense. He can play on right-back as well as center-back positions. At the same time, he is quite experienced. Also, the 25-year-old will soon be entering his prime. So, Chelsea could sign Jules Kounde at the best possible moment. But, the Blues also face some tough competition for him. London-rivals Arsenal also want to sign the Barcelona star. Mikel Arteta considers him as an upgrade to Ben White and injury-prone Takehiro Tomiyasu. If the 25-year-old chooses to leave, it will be interesting to see which side of London he prefers to play for.
