Chelsea have completed 8 new signings as per now. They want to improve their ranking in Premier League next season. In 2023/24 season, Chelsea finished on 6th position. They were looking confident to secure their place in Europa League. However Manchester United defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final. This led to United claiming spot in Europa League. As a result, Chelsea FC will now play in Conference league next season. Chelsea are keen to improve their squad ahead of next season. However, they need to sell some of their existing stars. They need to comply with the PSR rules of Premier League. Recently there are transfer rumours of two of their current stars. One is linked with a move to La Liga while the other is looked upon by Premier League giants.
Chelsea FC academy talent linked with move away from the club
Chelsea academy product Conor Gallagher seems very likely to part ways this summer. He has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. Atletico have been monitoring Gallagher from a very long time. However, they were unable to reach an agreement with Chelsea. According to Football London, Atletico have finally came to an agreement with Chelsea. They are ready to pay around £33 million along with add-ons.
Gallagher has been with Chelsea since 2008. He is loved by Chelsea fans. However, his time seems to be up at London as the transfer rumours are speeding up. Gallagher has not been the regular starter in the recent seasons. He was used regularly after the injury to Enzo Fernandez at the end of last season. However, he it is believed that this will not be the case this season. In addition, Gallagher failed to impact England’s national side in Euro 2024. He was quickly replaced by Kobbie Mainoo who became regular starter for Southgate.
Another reason Chelsea are prepared to sell Gallagher is because of PSR rules. Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion since Todd Boehly took over. In contrast, they have failed to show enough profit causing problem for them. Recently, we saw Everton and Nottingham getting punished due to failure in complying with PSR rules. Gallagher’s sale will be counted as pure profit as he is their academy product. In addition, he only has one year left in his current contract. Chelsea will not want to lose him for free. Hence, they are ready to part ways with him and earn some good amount of money.
Ben Chilwell linked with Premier League giants
Ben Chilwell signed for Chelsea in 2020 from Leicester for around £45 million. He was very good in his first season for Chelsea. Chilwell played 42 matches in the 2020/21 season across all competitions. He scored 4 goals and gave 7 assists in the process. Chelsea FC went on to win the Champions League that season. However, Chilwell was unable to maintain that level due to injuries.
Chilwell played only 13 matches in the 2021/22 season. Later, he played only 30 matches in 2022/23 season and only 21 matches last season. His injuries have became the problem for the club. Hence, Chelsea are ready to sell him if they receive an offer meeting their demands. In addition, Marc Cucurella has been very good in the Euro 2024. He helped Spain to win the Euros for the fourth time in history. Recently their are transfer rumours linking Chilwell to Chelsea’s English rivals.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are interested in signing Ben Chilwell. United faced a huge problem last season as both of their left backs were injured. Luke Shaw missed many matches due to injury whereas, Tyrell Malacia was absent for the whole season. Erik Ten Hag used Diogo Dalot as the left back. However he was not very effective as it is not his preferred position. Ben Chilwell can prove as a good addition to United squad as he has a lot of experience playing in the premier league. He will reunite with his former teammate Mason Mount with whom he won the Champions League title.
