Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has turned out to be a flop for the Blues. Premier League clubs like Liverpool and others have shown interest in making a deal with the player.
The start of the 2024-2025 campaign of the Blues have been good. They only lost their opening match to current Premier League title holders Manchester City. The rest of the matches have ended in a draw or a win for Chelsea.
Last season was pretty disappointing for Chelsea as they finished 6th in the Premier League table. The arrival of Enzo Maresca has been a boon for the club. The new yet inexperienced coach has managed to churn out good performances from the Blues.
There is no shortage of goals from Chelsea’s side as they have scored the most goals in the season yet. Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku are the team’s top scorers with 6 goals. Palmer’s 4 goals against Brighton have been a sign of Chelsea’s strong start to their campaign.
One player in particular who has struggled with the Blues is Mykhailo Mudryk. The winger has not been able to find his place with Enzo Maresca’s squad. The coach has been frustrated with the Ukranian as he has failed to show his potential in the team.
The 23-year-old has failed to live up to the expectation since his move to the Stamford Bridge. Mudryk sits behind Jadon Sancho in the selection choices for the coach. For the moment it seems that Mudryk’s future will be set at a new club.
Premier League clubs interested in Chelsea winger
Mykhailo Mudryk had moved to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk at the price tag of 88.5 million euros. This signing took a big chunk of the Blues’ purse.
This was one of the club’s biggest purchases. Mykhailo’s time with the team however has been disappointing so far. Enzo Maresca has considered the winger the first choice for his squad. The January transfer window most likely sees Mudryk parting ways with the club.
Premier League giants Liverpool has shown interest in signing the winger. They are looking to acquire the Chelsea player to replace their striker. The Red’s star striker Mohammed Salah will be a free agent in 2025. The Egyptian international’s contract will end next year.
Liverpool has eyes on Mykhailo Mudryk as the potential replacement for Salah. According to the reports of Spanish media outlet Fichjaes, Liverpool could offer a 50-million-euro package for the winger. A move to the Anfield stadium could be a fresh start for the Ukranian.
Chelsea paid around 100 million euros for Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023. It is clear that no club is ready for this big amount for the youngster. The Blues will most likely accept the 50 million euro if the Reds come up with an official offer. Chelsea would be desperate to cut their losses with Mudryk.
It will be interesting to see Mudryk’s move out of Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old was hinted to move in the summer transfer window but extended his time with the Blues. The January transfer window will decide Mudryk’s final destination.
Experts believe Mudryk would be better under Arteta
The time that Mykhailo Mudryk has spent with Chelsea has been far from impressive. Former English footballer Darren Bent said that Arsenal would be the best choice for Mudryk.
There has been limited appearance of the Ukranian for the Blues. He has played for just 81 minutes in three appearances this season. The 23-year-old has struggled to find his place in Enzo Maresca’s final playing squad.
Arsenal were very interested in Mudryk before his move to Chelsea. Darren Bent believes that the winger made a wrong move in choosing the Blues over the Gunners. While talking with talkSPORT Bent said-
“I do think under Arteta’s guidance players would look better. A prime example- Mudryk”.
The Gunners have had a strong start to their season. Mikel Arteta has managed to maintain a winning streak this campaign. Arsenal currently sits in the third position on the Premier League table. Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been the top performers for the club.
If Mudryk is to ever move to Arsenal from Chelsea, he will face serious competition. Mykhailo will face the same situation as he is currently in with the Blues. The youngster will most likely face less game time if he moves to Emirates Stadium.
