Chelsea front runners in the race for Bayern Munich ace David Alaba

Chelsea have been in the front seat to sign Bayern Munich star David Alaba. The versatile player had been facing certain contract issues in Munich since he has entered his last year of the contract.

Chelsea had been unstoppable in the recent summer transfer window, spending more than £220 million. Their manager Frank Lampard has been doing great things with new signings, sitting at 3rd position with just 2 points behind Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

David Alaba has been a crucial part of Bayern Munich’s rise to one of the best teams in the world. But he is now on the verge of leaving Allianz Arena, club management is keen on keeping him but he is very unlikely to sign a contract extension.

David Alaba began his career at SV Aspern. He then made his debut aged 10 years at FK Austria Wien.

In the summer of 2008, Bayern Munich brought him to the Bundesliga. After his U17 and U18 stints, he played for the reserve team. He went on to train with the first team of Bayern in the 2009-10 season. He also became the club’s youngest ever player in a competitive fixture, at 17 years, 7 months, and 8 days old.

In 2011, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim bought him on loan and then returned to Bayern Munich. He has managed to score 21 goals in 257 matches for the Bavarians. He has won total of 9 trophies with 2 Champions League.

For his country, Austria, he managed to score 14 goals in 75 matches.

A free transfer (pre-contract) is on Chelsea’s cards concerning David Alaba. They have also joined in the race for free transfer of Lionel Messi.

The Pensioners have been in great form and are currently in 3rd place in the Premier League. Pini Zahavi is Alaba’s agent and he has been important in various deals with Blues owner Roman Abramovich in the past.

For Chelsea, he might have to play as a left-sided centre-back with Ben Chilwell being the left-back.

However, big clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, and Juventus are also interested in signing him. Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Manchester City were earlier interested in signing him.

The Reds have also been looking to sign him in the coming January. He would be able to solve most of the defensive issues of the Merseyside giants.

For the Citizens, Alaba could be able to replicate their former captain Vincent Kompany. They have issues while attacking and Alaba might solve the issues.

After the shock loss to Shakthar Donetsk and their recent form in the Champions League, Real Madrid will be eager to sign Alaba. Their legendary defender Sergio Ramos is also facing a contract disagreement with the club, is expected to leave on a free transfer.
