It’s been a very busy transfer window for the Blues, as many arrivals and departures occured in this period.
On the deadline day, Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United. They were also able to send Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Djordje Petrovic and Raheem Sterling on loan in the final hours.
However, not everyone’s wish regarding a move away from the Blues camp came true. Right now Chelsea are training with more than 30 players in their first team list. Naturally it will be hard for the youngsters to get minutes in a star stacked Chelsea side.
As per reports Chelsea young talent Alex Matos was close to join Spanish side Getafe. The negotiations between two clubs gained pace in the last days of the window but unfortunately the deal is cancelled due to paperwork delay.
It will be frustrating for Matos to stay at Chelsea as he knows he will get the least amount of play time there. Chelsea will also want to explore options for Matos as some windows around the world are still open for the next 3 days.
Who is Alex Matos?
Matos joined Chelsea U21 academy from Norwich on a free transfer in 2023. Chelsea’s youth development analyst Jim Fraser was monitoring the 2004 born talent, who wanted to make a top u21 squad.
He has made 2 appearances for the Blues last season where he showed the glimpses of his talent. Ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino was very much impressed by his traits.
Pochettino stated that, the 19 year old midfielder was mixing properly with the squad and he was very much focused with a great character. Matos went on loan to a championship side Huddersfield Town, in the second half of the season.
Matos made 19 league appearances for the Terriers before the side got relegated to League One. He was desperate to break into senior football last season as he was one of the best players for the championship side.
As per WhoScored Matos had a season rating of 6.73 for Huddersfield Town. The teenager had an amazing defensive statistics for a mid-fielder as he won 94% percentile of tackles he made.
He came back from loan to Chelsea before the starting of the summer transfer window. Chelsea values him at £10m as of now, and they would like to sell him or send him on loan to improve his game.
Matos is of Ghanaian descent who has represented the Three Lions in the under-15 level. He also represented for the England u-20 squad on June, this year.
Chelsea would like to use the talented teenager in future or get some funds by selling him. But to give his game maturity he needs play time now.
Registration delay frustrates both parties
According to journalist Rahman Osman, Spanish side Getafe was pushing hard to sign Matos on loan from Chelsea. Unfortunately, Getafe failed to register the transfer with La Liga before the last hours of the deadline day.
La Liga would have been a great place for Matos to show his talent as it is one of the best leagues around the world. It has more skillful players and generates more attacking play than any other leagues. Matos would have had a great opportunity to ignite his talent in Spain.
If he still wants to leave the club he will be having minimal options as only Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish and Saudi Arabia are the leagues with their windows still open.
We will have to wait to watch what happens in the next 72 hours, but it seems less likely for the Blues to keep Matos and guarantee him minutes with the players they have in the squad.
