The Blues are planning to sign a high quality defender in January. There have been many names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Now, Chelsea have been linked with Tomas Araujo of Benfica and Illia Zabarnyi of Bournemouth.

The area in question is their defence who is finding it hard to keep clean sheets. Chelsea board have identified the issue and are now planning to sign defender in January itself. They have now set their eyes on Araujo and Zabarnyi who are both having good season.

January window is not known for big moves, but Chelsea have proved that saying wrong in recent markets as they have constantly made bold moves.
It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Tomas Araujo is a player Chelsea really like. The Portugese defender plays for Benfica and has €100 million release clause.
He has his current contract running until 2028 which suggests the Blues will need to spend a hefty fee. But there were some reports that stated that he may be available for a price lower than his actual release clause.

Now, Football Transfers have reported that Chelsea have also shortlisted Illia Zabarnyi. The Ukrainian defender plays for Bournemouth and has started in all of the Premier League matches for them this season.
He has his current contract running until 2029. Bournemouth have no intention to sell him as they have just signed him. He joined the English club in January 2023 and then signed new contract this summer.
