The star in question here is Ian Subiabre. He plays as a left winger and has came through River Plate’s academy. He has played 11 games this season and has registered 1 goal to. Subiabre is not yet a regular starter but is progressing really well and can soon be the one.
According to La Pagina Millonaria, the Blues were in talks with the agent of Ian Subiabre. The 19 year old is wanted by multiple clubs across whole Europe. But, the Blues have taken the lead in the race. Their london rivals Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on the youngster.
River Plate are demanding £23 million to part ways with Subiabre. But, Chelsea are unwilling to pay that amount. They don’t view this as an ideal transfer fee for a player who lacks experience at the top level. It will be interesting to see if their approach changes in coming days.
Do Chelsea really need Ian Subiabre this summer?
Chelsea have shown interest in signing top talents from across whole Europe since their takeover. They are not shy to spend big on players who they view as ideal fit. They have also shown high admiration for South American stars.
But, the Blues do have a very good squad depth right now. Most of their players are youngsters due to which it has costed them. Enzo Maresca has expressed a desire of brining in some experienced players. Hence, Subiabre is not the one the Blues need desperately.
Chelsea need a proven left-winger who can have instant impact. As of now, they are linked with Rafael Leao. The Portugese has proved himself on the top level and this is what the Blues need right now. Their strategy of signing young players is very good but you do need experience to win major titles.
