Samu Omorodion has earned his first ever international call-up for Spain. The 20 year old has been in a superb form this season. Omorodion deserves the spot in senior team for sure, but this call-up may be a huge regret for Chelsea.
Samu Omorodion has been in superb form since the start of this season. He joined FC Porto after impressing with Alaves in the last season. Samu has been able to score 11 goals in 12 matches this season.
He has been able to score 7 league goals in 7 games along with 4 goals in 4 Europa league games. There is no doubt about why he has been called up by Luis de la Fuente.
Samu will now compete with Alvaro Morata for the starting spot and will hope to be a regular for Spain in upcoming months. Full Spain squad available on the national team’s official X (twitter) account.
Why will Chelsea regret Omorodion being called-up by Spain national team?
Chelsea were very close to sign Omorodion this summer. The deal was in the final stages but unfortunately it failed to materialise. The Blues then signed Joao Felix who has been impressive at the moment, but not exactly like Omorodion.
Now, Samu has received international call-up which will surely increase his price tag. Chelsea are still keen to sign him but now Porto will demand a huge fee for him. This will result in regret for the Blues as they will think that it would have been better to sign the striker this summer itself for a low price.
Omorodion has his currently contract running with Porto until 2029. He also has a €100 million release clause included and Porto may now demand any club interested in him to pay the full price.
The Blues are constantly linked with a move for new striker next year. Nicolas Jackson is playing really well but Chelsea board are still not convinced. They do have other young options like Marc Guiu but it will not stop them from going after another striker.
