Chelsea FC are in talks with Nicolas Jackson to extend his contract by two more years. The Senegalese already has a contract till 2031.
Just four days after Cole Palmer extending his contract now it’s time for Nicolas Jackson to tie his future with the west londoners. It was confirmed vis offcial statement that Cole Palmer had extended his stay at Stamford bridge until 2033. He will also be rewarded with a pay rise making him one of the highest earners at the club.
THE TODD BOEHLY WAY
Since Todd Boehly took over Chelsea in 2021, they have introduced a new way of signing players. They have been giving extended contracts to players inorder to keep hold of them for longer years. Before than five year contracts were the norm of club football. It was the longest contract extension given to players. But when Mykhailo Mudryk was signed from Shaktar Donetsk in 2023 for 88 miilion pounds, he was given an eight an a half year contract. Same for Enzo Fernandes when he signed from Benfica for 106 million pounds. Summer signings Jackson, Palmer and Caicedo all had contracts running till 2030. This was something new to European football. But longer contracts were normal in America from were Boehly was from. Signing young players with longer contracts and lower wags helps them compile with the FFP rules.
JACKSON AND CHELSEA
It was reported by The Telegraph on 13th of August that Chelsea have decided to give Nicolas Jackson a contract extension. When he signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2023 he signed an eight year contract with the club. His current contract runs till 2031 and it seems simply bizzare to give him another two years. This new contract extension will tie him with the club until 2033. The club want to reward him with higher pay after his debut season. But with questions asked. Why Nicolas Jackson of all people? His goal tally of 14 goals in 34 Premier League games is fairly descent considering it’s his first season. It can be rewarded but, why now? he already has a long contract.
It also seems bizzare to think that Chelsea are in talks with Victor Osimhen and Joao Felix as new signings. It has been the Todd Boehly way tieing players to the club for the majority part of their career. If Jackson signs the extension which he probably will he will have no rights over his career for the next nine years.
WHAT NEXT FOR JACKSON?
After highly criticized first season at Chelsea, Jackson would like to prove his critiques wrong. His scored 17 times in all competitions close to reaching the 20 goal mark. Which is fairly good for a striker. The fact that he misses more chances than he scores is something what his critiques have always said. Chelsea squad is enormous with 40+ players in their ranks and Boehly isn’t letting down. They have signed nine players in this window already and more to come as per the sources. So the competition within the squad will get higher and higher day by day. With Victor Osimhen and Joao Felix potentially coming in he would find difficulty in finding his place in he starting eleven. Osimhen is keen on the move and will be a direct replacement to Jackson’s position and 18 year old Marc Guiu is also an out and out striker. The Senegalese should up his game for the new season if he want to challenge for the striker position. He would like to get on a good start against Man City at the Bridge on Sunday.
