Chelsea suffered a fresh injury blow at the back end of the international break while two of the starters suspended with latest news.
Chelsea have been in a good run of form recently as they are unbeaten since the previous international break. As Premier League football resumes this weekend, Chelsea are up against current league leaders Liverpool at their home. A very few teams are able to bring home points from Anfield. Even though the Reds stay on top of the table and on a rich run of form. It is also evident that their fixture list where a lot easier compared to other teams. Anyway, it would be a challenge for Chelsea to take points more over play well under the lights at Anfield. The Blues are also dealing with some absentees for this huge match with Felippe Jorgensen injured during the break and two of their starters in Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella suspended. While Reece James returned to training, it is unlikely that he would feature on Sunday.
A FRESH INJURY BLOW
Chelsea suffered a fresh injury blow as deputy keeper Filip Jorgensen was forced off injured at half time while playing for the Denmark U21 team. The 22-year-old has featured for Chelsea 4 times this season with 3 of them coming in the UEFA Conference League. Jorgensen is yet to make his Premier League debut as the Spaniard Robert Sanches remains as the first choice for Enzo Maresca.
The 22-year-old has been representing the Denmark U21 team again during this international break. Their only match was against the Iceland U21 team which they won comfortably 2-0. The match was moving towards the half time when Jorgensen attempted to clear a ball before suffering the injury. As per football.london. It is still unclear about how intense the injury is. Jorgensen will now return to Loftus Road to undergo further assessment from the Chelsea medical team. He will be reunited with his Chelsea teammates ahead of the Liverpool match. But only the extent of the injury can determine his availability for the weekend. It would not be such a huge concern for Maresca as the first choice Robert Sanches is available.
THE SUSPENDED DUO
The only department Chelsea have been consistent the whole season, is their defense. We saw the formation of a real camaraderie between Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill at the heart of the defense. Enzo Maresca has already mentioned it multiple times. He has only made changes to it a few times, all in cup competitions. He has never dared to change the defensive line in the Premier League and would have wished it to stay like that forever. Anyway, now he is forced to make alterations owing to suspension to Wesley Fofana after accumulating 4 yellow cards already.
Along with Fofana they are also going to miss Marc Cucurella at left back in a similar scenario. Maresca now have to deal with the absence of two of his starting defensive players while traveling to Anfield. At left back position they already have Ben Chilwell or Renato Veiga as replacements and will not be such a concern. Both are viable options and considering the recent run of form it is likely that the Italian boss would hand Veiga his first Premier League start.
There are also questions raising about the number of yellow cards picked up by Chelsea players. It will only cause a problem when they have to miss players for crucial matches like this.
REECE JAMES INJURY NEWS AMID CHELSEA RETURN
Chelsea club captain Reece James suffered a hamstring injury during the pre-season. He is yet to feature for them in a competitive match this season. A positive news that came this weekend from Cobham is the return of Reece James. The Englishman is back in full team training but as it seems he will not be ready for the Liverpool fixture. More updates regarding James will be provided by the blues boss Enzo Maresca in the pre-match PC ahead of the match at Anfield.
