Chelsea have got off to a wonderful start to the new season. Though their Premier League campaign started in a disappointing back in August. As they got thrashed by the defending champions Man City away from home. But the Blues have bounced back pretty good. Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca’s are yet to lose a match in the league since the opening matchday.
The Blues are also unbeaten across all competitions since their last defeat against Servette in the Conference League qualifiers. Currently they are standing at 4th place in the table. With 4 wins in 7 matches Chelsea have 14 points on their name (4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss). They are trailing by 3 points behind title contenders City and Arsenal and 4 by the current table toppers Liverpool.
Chelsea will be back in action this weekend as the international break ended on Wednesday. And they will face Arne Slot’s inform Liverpool at the Anfield. No doubt it will be one of the toughest challenges for Maresca as the Blues boss. And he will be heading towards that fixture with injury concerns over his head.
Chelsea injury update
Chelsea second goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has recently received an injury during his national duties. Filip was brought into the side earlier this summer from Spanish side Villareal in a deal worth of £20million. Though he never made an appearance in the Prem so far but has been used in the Conference league and Carabao cup matches.
In the u-21’s game against Iceland, the Danish keeper was substituted in the first half on Tuesday. As he accidentally collided with a team-mate in attempt of clearing the ball. As per the reports of Football.London, the 22-year-old has returned to West London for further check-ups. It is still unknown how serious the matter is. He will be joining the likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella in the bench for the weekend’s match against Liverpool.
Captain James is currently recovering from his hamstring injury, from which he had suffered a lot in the past. And the other two mentioned above will be suspended as both of them have already received 5 yellow cards in the league.
Going on to the international break Chelsea stars Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke were also in doubt of injuries. As both of them were substituted late in the game against the Forest‘s couple of weeks ago. But they will be available this weekend as both of the Englishmen represented the Three Lions in the Nations league during the break.
Blues current form
The Blues didn’t head into the break on a high note couple of weeks ago. As they failed to capitalize their chances against 10 men Nottingham Forest. After conceding a goal in the earlier stages of the second half, Madueke didn’t take long to score a belter of an equalizer. But at the end Chelsea only managed to grab 1 point at the Bridge.
Maresca do have a wonderful attacking depth on his side. The likes of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke are on top form this season. In just 11 matches they have already scored 28 goals across all competitions.
But Chelsea’s biggest problem in the past couple of seasons have been their defense. The Blues have already conceded 12 goals in 11 matches across all competitions this season. The lack of experience in the defensive lineup is a problem for them. And the absence of veteran fullback Cucurella in the left will surely cause major problems for Chelsea this weekend. As the ‘Egyptian King’ Mo Salah will be gliding through that flank.
