The summer transfer window is getting interesting in the final days. Chelsea have secured their 12th signing of the summer. They have signed Mike Penders from Genk for £17 million. This does not seem to be the last signing Todd Boehly makes this summer. Victor Osimhen is a topic of interest for the London club. On the other hand, their Premier League rivals Manchester United also had a good window. They made already made 4 new signings but are nowhere near done. United are very close to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. Both Chelsea and United could be now seen making a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling.
United ready to part ways with Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho signed for Manchester United in 2021 as a promising youngster. He came from Dortmund as a well established winger at such a young age. Sancho scored 50 goals and provided 57 assists in just 137 matches for Dortmund. United paid around £73 million after being linked with Sancho for long time. However, they were unable to witness the best of Jadon Sancho. Sancho was unable to continue with the form he had at Dortmund.
To make matters worse, Sancho was involved in conflict with Erik Ten Hag which made him unable to play for United last season. As a result, he was sent on a loan for the later half of last season back to Dortmund. Sancho helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final. He showed his ability and caught attention of many clubs. United have no intention of using Sancho on regular basis and hence think the best way is to part ways with the winger.
Chelsea ready to part ways with Raheem Sterling
Sterling’s story with Chelsea is similar to that of Sancho. Chelsea signed the English winger from Manchester City for £47.5 million in 2022. Sterling joined City in 2015 from Liverpool and made a huge name under Pep Guardiola. He was an important factor behind City’s success. Sterling scored 131 goals and provided 74 assists for City in 339 matches. However, he has not been same since joining Chelsea. His performances dropped along with his stats. This also costed Sterling his place in England national team for Euro 2024.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has made it clear that the 29 year old winger is not part of his plans. Maresca has left Sterling out of the his squad for both of the Premier League fixtures this season. Sterling is now said to leave Stamford Bridge. If he joins Manchester United, he will play for four out of big six clubs in England.
Chelsea and United discussing about the potential swap deal
Chelsea are in talks with Manchester United over a potential swap deal. This would involve Chelsea signing Jadon Sancho and United signing Raheem Sterling. According to The Telegraph, United are trying to move ahead with the swap deal on their own terms. United have an advantage in this situation as Juventus are also interested to sign Sancho. Federico Chiesa is on the verge of joining Liverpool. Juventus plan to replace Chiesa with another young winger. Sancho has been on their radar since a long time this summer. However, they have not been able to meet United’s demands.
Chelsea on the other hand have already signed many attacking player. Signing Sancho should not be their main target. However, no one has been able to identify what Chelsea board is planning. They are also linked with Victor Osimhen who has interest from Saudi clubs. To generate sufficient revenue, Chelsea are desperate to sell Sterling this summer. Crystal Palace is another Premier League club who is linked with Raheem Sterling.
