Chelsea and Liverpool are set to fight each other over the signing of French defender in the summer window. Multiple other clubs are also interested and the player has hefty release clause too.
The Blues are keen to improve their defence this summer. They are expected to bring atleast 2 new defenders. As of now, they have Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen on their radar but are also monitoring other options.
On the other hand, Liverpool are doing great this season. But, they will need some new reinforcements in the back. Virgil van Dijk will be out of contract at the end of the season. In addition, Konate has been subject of interest from foreign clubs.
Chelsea & Liverpool both showing interest in French defender
According to The Mirror, Chelsea and Liverpool are both showing interest in Castello Lukeba. In addition, the 22 year old has interest from Real Madrid and Man United as well.
United mah find it very hard to convince Lukeba to join them. Not only they are set to miss UCL but, they seem to miss all European competitions. As for Madrid, they have William Saliba as their top target.
Lukeba has £74.5 million release clause in his contract which will be active from the coming summer. Leipzig will want this to be paid fully. They will not negotiate on lower fee as they have multiple clubs interested in defender.
Chelsea are known to sign young players in the recent years. The fans eariler protested against this new policy but the club wishes to continue it. They are said to build a squad for future and hence Lukeba can be a great addition to the squad.
As for Liverpool, their captain Van Dijk can still opt to extend his contract. But, he will still need replacement soon due to his age. Lukeba can be a great addition to their squad as well and hence the Reds can go strongly in the market for him.
