Ben White impressed everyone during his loan spell at Leeds United last season. He was an integral part of the Leeds United who won the Championship and clinch their long-awaited return to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds tried to make the loan move of White permanent last summer but Brighton asked almost £50 million which was not possible for The Peacocks to pay that amount of money and he remained at the Amex Stadium.
The 23-years-old highly-rated defender returned to Brighton in the summer and has started all ten of the Seagulls’ league matches this season, continuing to impress despite the team’s slow start to the campaign.
Ben White’s preferred position is centre back but Marcelo Bielsa used him as a holding midfielder and Brighton coach Graham Potter has also used him in both the position because of his quality with the ball as a defender.
Manchester United and Chelsea are in for White:
White’s performance for Leeds and Brighton haven’t gone unnoticed, reports are saying that Premier League big boys Manchester United and Chelsea are the clubs who are monitoring the situation of White with Brighton.
Manchester United have an abundance of centre-back but still, they have issues at the back, out of those centre backs Phil Jones and Eric Bailly never managed to keep themselves fit for a whole season, Axel Tuanzebe had his issues with fitness. The only two options who can stay fit are the captain Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf.
They have conceded a lot of goals this season 16 in 9 matches in the league, which is almost twice a single match ratio. If their defence continues to consider goals like this it will be very tough to get at least top let alone challenging for the title.
They bought Thiago Silva on a free transfer but he is already 36-years-old and he won’t be a long-term solution for them. They will be looking to land Ben White to partner Kurt Zouma who has been extremely good this season, to strengthen the defence.
Liverpool will likely look to sign a new centre-back in January following injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez but are currently not considering a deal for White. According to some reports, they are considering Dayot Upamecano who was also linked with the Red Devils last summer.
As well as for Leeds, White also enjoyed loan spells at Peterborough United and Newport County before cementing his place in the Brighton first team.
It won’t be easy for either team to buy Ben White from Brighton, they already asked £50 million last summer and they will ask even more for him as he solidified his place in the starting Xl and it will be a tough business for them in the upcoming transfer window.
Manchester United, Chelsea are in Champions League action this midweek, while Ben White faces rivals Southampton next weekend.
