Chelsea news: 2 stars made it clear to leave unless …

Many Chelsea stars moved away from Stamford Bridge this tranfer window. Out of them 2 could have stayed with the Blues if only their one wish was fulfilled by Enzo Maresca.

The Blues had a very quiet transfer window in terms of incomings. They signed only 1 player – Mathis Amougou for whom they spent €15 million. He too will be sent on loan in summer to play for Strasbourg and develop before making his way in the Chelsea first team.

In terms of outgoings, many stars left the club on loan. Some even left permanently, and the many out of those on loan are also likely to get sold in summer. Out of those stars that moved away, Enzo Maresca wanted 2 to stay with them.

Chelsea boss wanted to keep 2 stars with him

According to Simon Johnson, Enzo Maresca was unwilling to part ways with Renato Veiga and Cesare Casadei. But, both players demanded regular game time from the Italian coach. As a result, Casadei left on permanent basis whereas Veiga has left on loan.

Casadei joined Serie A side Torino for a transfer fee of £12 million. The Blues also have a heavy sell-on clause in the contract. He played only 6 games under Maresca and none of them were in Premier League. Hence a move away from Chelsea was required to get his career back on track.

On the other hand, Veiga has joined Juventus on loan. There is no buy option in contract which suggests that he still has future at West London. Veiga will play in his preferred position as centre-back in Italy and the loan move will also help him to play regularly.

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea will do with Veiga in summer. The 21 year old will have to play as left-back once again at West London. Hence, he may force a move away on permanent basis but it is still early to comment on anything about his future.
